DAVAO CITY (May 18) — Local legislators here are bracing with the digital technology, they are now preparing to a paperless session day.
The City Councilors underwent a training in the hope of fully implementing a paperless session.
As it is now, the office of the City Council Secretary prepares voluminous documents every Friday for the Tuesday’s regular session.
Aside from the documents they are holding, there is also an available power point presentation on wide screen.
A staff at the Secretary’s office said, they prepare at least twenty pages for agenda of the council members.
With their laptops, councilors can browse the agenda for the day and can easily access their files rather than spend time to scan their documents.
“We need to prepare at least 35 copies of the at least 20-page agenda for the day including the annexes,” depending on the agenda, she added.
Vice Mayor Bernie Al-ag told reporters city legislators have undergone training for the implementation of the paperless session.
“We need to undergo training because we are not technology savvy, we must embrace the digital world to go paperless,” Al-ag added.
The Davao City Information and Technology Center (CITC) is coordinated with the city council on the training.
Al-ag said the paperless session, aims to reduce the papers used in the City Council by 80%, was supposed to have been implemented last March but he said they have to make adjustments.
The 28 members of the Davao City Council were issued laptops to embrace the new technology.
