Father of Maute brothers died while in detention

MANILA, Philippines— Engr. Cayamora Maute, 67, the father of the Maute terror group died Sunday at about 3:07 in the afternoon in Taguig-Pateros District Hospital.

Cayamora, is the father of Abdullah, Omar Maute and Madie, are  leading the attack in Marawi City since May 23.

Government authorities consider Cayamora as a high risk individual for being the father of the terrorist sons who founded the Maute gorup.

Senior Inspector Xavier Solda, spokesperson of the Bureau of Jail Management and  Penology (BJMP) said Cayamora complained of difficulty in breathing  and his blood pressure shot up, which prompted them to bring him to the hospital.

Aside from having hypertension, Cayamora was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and hepatitis.

Relatives of Cayamora requested that his  remains be brought to the Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila, Solda said.

Lanao del Sur Crisis Management Committee Spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong said he hopes Cayamora Maute will “be accorded with proper burial rites and his remains be given to his immediate kins.”

Cayamora  along with his second wife Kongan and his daughter Norjannah and his partner Benzarali  were arrested on June 7, at the Task Force Davao checkpoint in Sirawan, Davao City  while en route to Tagum City for a medical check up.

Other arrested Maute family members are still detained  in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.– Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
