DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Barangay captains here will hold a prayer rally this afternoon to ask President Rodrigo Duterte not to accept the resignation of his son Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.
Liga ng mga Barangay board member, Barangay Captain Robert Mendoza said they expect 3,500 participants most barangay leaders and their functionaries to attend the rally infront of San Pedro Cathedral this city.
“The Liga officials held an emergency meeting yesterday and we agreed to hold a prayer rally to ask the President not to accept Vice Mayor Pulong’s resignation because we need the Vice Mayor, he served the city well and we want him to stay in office,” Mendoza added.
On Christmas day, Vice Mayor Duterte in a privilege speech during the special session resigned as citing “Delicadeza.”
“There are recent unfortunate events in my life that are closely tied to my failed marriage. These, among others, include the maligning of my reputation in the recent name dropping incident in the Bureau of Customs smuggling case and the very public squabble with my daughter. The other person in this failed relationship is incorrigible and cannot be controlled and I take full responsibility for all that has happened as a result of a wrong decision to marry at a very young age,” Duterte in a privilege speech stressed.
Barangay Angliongto Barangay Captain Ralph Abella said “We need the Vice Mayor and we do not want him to resign.”
Mayor Sara-Duterte Carpio earlier said the Vice Mayor sent his resignation to Malacanang Wednesday, December 26 via LBC.
