COTABATO CITY — Policemen are hot on the trail of gunmen who ambushed and wounded three persons, including a minor, in Pikit, North Cotabato over the weekend.

In a report, Capt. Mautin Pangadigan, Pikit police chief, identified the victims as Omar Delna Akob, 26, and Tala Maulana Matabalao, 30, both farmers; and Manyara Akob Buka, 15; all of Barangay Langayen, Pikit.

Pangadigan said the victims were on their way to the town proper onboard a Suzuki multi-cab vehicle to sell their corn products when tailed and fired upon by two men on a motorbike in Barangay Ginatilan around 4:30 pm.

“The attackers immediately sped off towards an unknown direction following the incident,” Pangadigan said.

He said concerned citizens brought the victims to the Cruzado Medical Hospital at the town proper where the three remain under close observation by doctors.

Pangadigan said they are closely looking into land conflict as a possible motive behind the incident.

“We have several persons of interest and pursuit operations are underway,” he said. (PNA)
