ILIGAN CITY —– Around 20 families escaped from the landslide that occurred, around 6 o’clock on Friday afternoon at the transitory shelter site in Barangay Boganga, Marawi City.

No casualties were reported.

Alexander Alag, city information officer-designate of Marawi said the landslide was brought by the continuous heavy rain since 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

The drainage that workers of a sawmill at the upper part of the shelter site made has triggered the mud that flowed down to sector 54 and 55 of the site according to Alag.

“Siguro kung nagpatuloy ang pag-ulan at nadagdagan pa ang landslide, nakatabon na ito sa mga more or less 20 na kabahayan. Mga ilang metro nalang talaga ang pagitan sa mga bahay, hanggang kalsada lang ang bumuhos na tubig na may putik,” Alag said in a phone interview.

(Has the rain continued, more landslides could have occurred that might have buried more or less 20 houses. Only a few meters away from the washed-out muds are the location of houses .)

All housing sites in Marawi was identified by the local government units. The site is just one of the areas where the National Housing Authority produced mass housing, after the barangay council and the city planning and development office recommended the site for the housing project.

Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, soldiers of the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion and Marawi police immediately responded to the area to excavate the mud-covered road leading to the shelter facility. Newsline
