3 dead, 6 injured after Army vehicle fell off a cliff

DAVAO CITY — A soldier and two civilian auxiliaries died while six others were injured when the military truck they boarded lost control and fell off a cliff in Sitio Langag, New Bataan, Davao de Oro on Saturday, May 18.

New Bataan Municipal Police Station identified the fatalities as Pfc Jaynor Makakua, CAA Reynald Balaga and CAA Ferlan Conception while the injured were 1Lt Fidel Castro Jr., Sgt Michael Arzaga, Cpl Emil Joy Mission, Pvt Jonel Alvarado, CAA Jay Ar Bale and CAA Kim Ardel Castro, all members of the 25th Infantry Battalion of the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The report stated that at around 9:00 in the morning on Saturday, the team on board a KM 450 with licensed plate number SAB 7366 was traveling from Davao de Oro provincial road but upon reaching the steep hill in Purok 12 Sitio Langag the vehicle suddenly stopped and slowly moved backward then plunged to a cliff and reportedly turned turtle and reached the river, The vehicle was damaged.

The team was scheduled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony and signing of the Inter-Local Agency Partnership for the 5 kilometers farm-to-market road in Sitio Bamboo and Sitio Boston, Barangay Andap in New Bataan.

The injured passengers were immediately brought to Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital in the Municipality of Montevista.
