3 more marijuana plantations destroyed in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Government operatives have raided and destroyed another three marijuana plantations in the province of Sulu, a top military official announced Friday.

Col. Hernanie Songano, 4th Marine Brigade commander said the three marijuana plantations were discovered Wednesday in Sitio Kanbasih, Barangay Masjid Punjungan, Kalingalang Caluang, Sulu.

Songano, who is also the Naval Task Group Sulu commander said that the three plantations were discovered in follow-up operations five days after they destroyed two marijuana plantations also in Barangay Masjid Punjungan, Kalingalang Caluang.

Songano said the three plantation sites, owned by a certain Jaju, have more or less one hectare total area planted with fully grown marijuana, with an estimated worth of P760,000.

Songano said the three marijuana plantations were discovered through the concerted efforts of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-9 (MBLT-9), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Sulu Provincial Police Office’s (SPPO) intelligence unit.

The discovery Wednesday of the three plantation sites came five days after the MBLT-7 along with PDEA-Sulu and SPPO raided and destroyed two marijuana plantations, also in Masjid Punjungan village, Kalingalang Caluang town.

The two marijuana plantations, which were raided and destroyed on March 26, has an estimated P21 million worth and is owned by a certain Utoh. –Nikolai Gonzalo
