DAVAO CITY –— At least three senators of the country have been tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as of March 26, 2020.

Senator Sonny Angara has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Thursday.

Angara is the third senator to have the disease, following earlier announcements made by Senators Migz Zubiri and Koko Pimentel.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III in a statement announced “I was informed late last night, March 24, 2020, that I have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The swab was taken last Friday, March 20, 2020.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 16.

Senator Bong Go in a statement Thursday said he  will undergo a self-quarantine after a congressman who he recently came into contact with tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The statement said his team has begun tracing the participants of a meeting he attended last Saturday after ACT-CIS Party-list Representative Eric Yap confirmed he has COVID-19.

This developed as the Presidential Security Group (PSG) said Thursday it was ready to file charges against ACT-CIS party-list Representative Eric Yap for breach of COVID-19 protocols in Malacañang.

PSG commander Colonel Jesus Durante III said Yap did not disclose necessary information when he entered the Palace for a meeting on March 21, including exposure to persons who contracted the virus and the onset of symptoms.

“For whatever reason, he failed to disclose all needed information. PSG troopers on duty assessed him according to the answers on the said form he submitted, the basis of which he was allowed entry,” Durante said.
