DAVAO CITY — Today May 9, 2022 is a historic day for the 38 former rebels who for the first time in their lives cast their votes.

The 38 former rebels who casts their votes at Kanacan Elementary School in Marilog District were assisted by the Rivitalised Pulis sa Barangay led by PLt. Carlo Magno to the center but were turned over to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) personnel who help them in the procedure.

The former rebels walked under the gloomy weather the 16-kilometer rough and hilly land from their homes in Sitio Sandunan to Sitio Kanacan to exercise their right of suffrage for the first time with their renewed allegiance to the government.

Their leader who was a former commander Aida Siesa said “this is my first time to vote and I am happy that I am free and I can freely vote the candidates I want.”

Siesa expressed her gratitude to the electoral boards for assisting them in the election process.

“Daghan kaayong salamat ma’am and sir sa pag assist sa amo. Sa sunod napud puhon sa pag usab daghang salamat!” (Thank you so much Maam and sir for assisting us. See you next time, again, Thank You).

The former rebels went home with self-fulfillment and with high hopes that their chosen candidate will win.-Paul T. Palacio/Newsline
