DAVAO CITY — Diarrhea outbreak killed people including a three-day old baby and downed 212 others in barangay Pasian, Monkayo town, province of Davao de oro.
On Friday, June 18, the municipal government has declared Barangay Pasian under the state of calamity as town mayor Ramil Gentugaya ordered a round-the-clock medical surveillance and monitoring among the affected residents after he personally visited them at the makeshift hospital at the barangay gymnasium.
In an interview with Newsline.ph, Gentugaya revealed that the casualties were aged 38, 41, 88, 78 and a three-day-old baby.
Gentugaya also ordered the OIC Municipal health officer Dr. Jhericx V. Gapate to ensure that medical needs are well attended to avoid complications.
The residents, according to Gentugaya, get their water supply from the nearby Barangay Water System from a spring in the hinterlands.
The first laboratory test result showed presence of bacteria from the collected water sample, but Gentugaya said they also sent water sample in Davao City for further laboratory examination to determine the cause of the outbreak.
Diarrhea is one of the symptoms of Coronavirus disease.
“The situation has been contained but we need to be careful,” he said. The provincial government and the Philippine Red Cross have sent aide to the affected residents.
Personnel from the Municipal Health Office and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) was instructed to provide medical services.
