5 killed in 24-hours in Davao City’s war on drugs

DAVAO CITY – Five suspected illegal drug dealers were in killed in different parts of the city during the last 24-hours  in a series of police buy-bust operations.

This happened two days after Mayor Sebastian Duterte declared war against drugs.

“I hereby declare a campaign that this city is at war against drugs,” this was the vow of Duterte in his message during the turn-over ceremony of the new City Police Director Police Colonel Richard Bad-ang on Friday.

Duterte emphasized “This will be your chance to get out of the city ug dili gani sorry (If not sorry)”.

“Nag-ingon na ko daan karon, gawas mo diha o hawa mo diri ug dili gani patyon tamo ( I am telling you now, come out, get out or I will kill you)” Duterte warned.

His father, then President and long-term Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also uttered the same words when he started his drugs war sometime September of 2007, dozens were killed while hundreds surrendered for fear of their lives.

True to his warning, five suspected drug dealers were killed the police in the different parts of the city during the last 24-hours.

Police reports shared to the news agencies showed that almost all of the victims have reportedly put up a fight against the law enforcers during the operations.

1.) The latest victim was identified as Emmanuel Jala Avila,  45 years-old, he was killed during a buy-bust operation past  4:00 in the afternoon on March 24, Sta, Ana police report showed that a buy-bust operation  was conducted at Sitio Coreas, Barangay Leon Garcia, Agdao. The police report stated that Avila pulled his pistol when the buyer introduced himself as a police officer which prompted the law enforcer to shot the suspect.

The suspect was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center but later died.

2). Past 3:00 in the morning of March 24, a certain Tiboy was gunned down by members of Tugbok Police Precinct in a buy-bust operations at Purook Purok 1, Bypass Road, Mintal, Davao City.

He was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center but was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician.

3). March 23 at around 10:00 in the evening, Jehurry Dresser  alias “Ngay”, a suspected drug dealer was gunned down by the members of the Ecoland Police in a buy-bust operations at Purok San Nicolas, Punta Dumalag, Barangay 75-A, Davao City.

The police report stated the suspect fired against the police and they just retaliated to protect themselves.

Dresser was brought to SPMC but he later died.

4.) Alias Larry, a suspected drug dealer  was also killed past 10:00 in the evening on March 23, by the  operatives from Talomo Police Precinct in a buy-bust operations at Shrine Hills Road, Barangay Matina Crossing, Davao City.

The police recovered  suspected shabu amounting to P43,960 and a .38 revolver from his possession.

5.) Sherwin Familiar Martin a.k.a Win was killed at around 112:56 in the morning on March 23  by members of the Buhangin Police during a buy-bust operations at Phase 2, Ponte Verde Subdivision,Barangay Communal.

Martin was considered a high value target. Police recovered P748,000 worth of suspected shabu, P6,000 worth of dried marijuana and ,45 caliber pistol from his possession.

In his speech Duterte said barangay captains and barangay officials informed him that the drug problem in the city has recurred but the city cannot simply close its borders from people outside though the law enforcers have been strict but still the illegal drug traders can still sneak in drugs.

When news about the series of killings were posted on Newsline social media page, no one condemned the killing, Instead, they joined the young Duterte in warning the drug dealers.

One Raymar said “Ayaw lagi diri-todas mo (Not here, you will die).
