DAVAO CITY, Philippines–– A total of 50 members of the Matigsalug tribe in Marilog here will graduate on Thursday, June 8, from a series of skills training program sponsored by Therma South, Inc. (TSI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower).

Harvey Lanticse, Branding and Communications Officer of AboitizPower in Mindanao, said the series of skills training is part of the comprehensive livelihood project dubbed as “Indigenous Crafts Project for CSMP Beneficiaries” of the company.

The livelihood project is being implemented in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-XI) and the Davao Designers Pool.

The program aims to capacitate a group of Matigsalug trainees in Marilog District and organize them into a viable community-based enterprise.

It also involves identification and production of viable indigenous products that can be produced locally using available indigenous materials and applying colorful ethnic designs with the help of famous local craft designers and established exporters, Lanticse added. (Alexander Lopez/PNA)
