DAVAO CITY — Good news to Dabawenyos whose livelihood has been affected by the implementation of the community quarantine, the City Government will be distributing food starting today, March 23 until March 27, 2020.

The food rationing will be rolled out to 50,000 families whose livelihood has been affected by the restrictive measures adopted to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The food rationing will start ‪from March 23‬ to 27, 2020 to Dabawenyos who are indigents and out of work, the “no work, no pay” workers, the self-employed and those out of work due to the slowing down of businesses in the city.

To avail of the relief goods, ration cards are distributed through the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) and the barangay leaders.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, however, reminded Dabawenyos availing of the relief goods to observe social distancing. She said there is a system to ensure the smooth process of distribution.

Duterte said the barangay captains distributing the ration cards are monitored by team leaders – Davao City Vice Mayor and the councilors to ensure that the rationing is properly implemented, manage the issues in the barangays, and social distancing is practiced.

The mayor also called on the private sector who would like to help in providing relief goods, not give relief to the people directly in order not to create chaos.

“Ginabawal namo ang private sector sa paghatag og mga relief goods directly sa mga tao, because this will create chaos, this will be disorganized, and this will cause people to mass gather (We are prohibiting the private sector from giving relief goods directly to the people because this will cause chaos, this will be disorganized, and this will cause people to mass gather),” she said.

Mayor Sara said the private sector may coordinate with the city government to assist them in the distribution. (With reports from the City Information Office)
