
DAVAO CITY (July 22)--Personnel of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao at their sub-station in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, have apprehended six fishermen who were allegedly using illegal compressors to catch fish.
The Coast Guard Intelligence Unit Southeastern Mindanao and the Bantay Dagat of the Municipality of Governor Generoso successfully arrested six individuals involved in illegal compressor fishing during a joint operation conducted approximately 500 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Pundaguitan, Governor Generoso.
The overnight operation began at around 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2026, and ended at 5:40 a.m. on July 22, 2026.
The arrested individuals were found to be violating Municipal Ordinance No. 04, Series of 2006, which prohibits the use of compressor fishing within the municipality.
While conducting a joint seaborne patrol, the operating team observed suspicious fishing activity, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
Authorities also confiscated one (1) compressor set, air hoses, and other fishing equipment used in the illegal activity.
The unnamed suspects were immediately brought to the Port of Monserrat, Barangay Monserrat, Governor Generoso, at 8:30 a.m.
The operatives handed over the motor bancas, caught fish, and fishing equipment to the Municipal Agriculture Office for the proper filing of legal and administrative cases.
In an official statement, the Coast Guard said it will continue to enforce the law in accordance with its mandate.
They also called on fishermen to refrain from using illegal methods so that they would not be prosecuted under the law.-Eugene Hinutan
