DAVAO CITY — Seven people including children died, two others were injured while residents fear many went missing due to the series of landslides at around 12:00 noon on Thursday in the Mining Site of Purok 20, Pag-asa, Barangay Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

Jergrace Cabag, information officer of LGU Monkayo said, the search and rescue operations have been suspended as the ground further softened due to the continuous rain brough about by Shear Line and North West monsoon affecting the Davao Region.

Videos showed that the victims were wrapped in cardboard while being escorted to a car.

This is not the first time a landslide has occurred in Monkayo, there have been incidents like this in the past years.

Many mountains in Davao de Oro have hallowed ground due to small scale mining activities which started several decades ago.
