DAVAO City (May 15) — The decision not to cast his vote during the barangay elections, was “purely political” , said President Rodrigo Duterte who emphasized that he does not want to hurt supporters.

In a chance interview with reporters at the wake of former Senatro Edgardo Angara in Taguig Monday night, Duterte said “Purely political. Lahat ‘yang tumakbo, kaibigan ko. Almost all were my supporters during the last election.”

He stressed “Eh lahat halos may utang na loob ako, sa tulong nila.”

He added, “they would never believe that I voted for them or not, so I think the better option would really be to just skip the voting because I don’t want them to doubt me.” and erase all suspicions in the mind of people who really helped me along the way, sabi ko hindi na ako pupunta,” he said.

But, Duterte said “I was busy monitoring all over the Philippines in front of so many communication gadgets.”

Duterte’s supporter waited for him at the Daniel Aguinaldo National High School in Matina, in the hope of seeing him, but he did not show up.-Jiann  A. Padillo/Newsline.ph
