TAGBILARAN CITY (May 27) — Unknown gunmen killed Buenavista, Bohol Municipal Mayor Ronald “Sampol” Tirol, inside the cockpit arena, in barangay Asinan, Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018.
Police Chief Inspector Rully Lauron, chief of Buenavista Police Station said, at about 3:15 in the afternoon, the gunmen walked close to Tirol while the mayor was watching a cockfight, and immediately shot him at close range.
Lauron said, the crime took place while Tirol’s bodyguard went to his car to get some cash.
Tirol was rushed to Inabanga District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Witnesses said the gunmen immediately left the crime scene and boarded a motorbike towards the municipality of Getafe.
Scene of the crime operatives recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber pistol.
Lauron suspects that the crime was due to personal grudge.
The police, according to Lauron, have identified two of the three suspects but he refused to give details.
