City Veterinarian’s Office of Davao conducts free spay and neuter services for female cats and dogs

DAVAO CITY (September 28) – The City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) has conducted free spay & neuter services for female cats and dogs at the Davao City Police Office covered court on Thursday and Friday.

CVO  animal disease and prevention control chief Dr. Gay Zaragoza-Pallar, said the activity aims to reduce the population of stray pets which may possibly contribute to the spread of rabies in the city.

Nine specialists from Metro Manila were invited to do the operation procedure to the dogs and cats in the city.

“Prioritize nato diri ang spaying kay panagsa ra man gud, og kung i-offer ni sa gawas, mahal man pud maong nag offer ta nga free (We prioritized spaying because this is seldom and if they go to a practitioners it is really expensive that is why we offer this for free),” she said.

She said their office targeted 1,000 dogs and cats in the two-day event.  Aside from the free spay and neuter services, Pallar is also calling the pet owners to have their pets vaccinated with anti-rabies. “We have many anti-rabies vaccines for dogs and cats,” she added.

From January to June this year alone, the office a has already injected 82,000 pets.  The vaccination continues in every barangay.

“Simultaneously, we go to the barangays every year just to control rabies because we want to make Davao City, rabies-free by 2020, ” she said.  Every year the CVO targets 110, 000 pets to be vaccinated.

She said that the public must be aware that the city lack of an anti-rabies vaccine for humans.  Earlier this year, the City Health Office bared the shortage of anti-rabies vaccine in the city.- Armando B. Fenequito Jr.
