MANILA (October 16)  – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) yesterday reminded interested candidates for the senatorial post that the deadline for the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) is on Wednesday, October 17.

They also reminded those who would register their candidacy for next year’s polls to stick with the four-companion only rule, which was not observed by  Special Assistant to the President, Christopher “Bong” Go when he filed his COC for senator on Monday.

Go was accompanied by several Cabinet members, including President Rodrigo Duterte when he filed his COC.

COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez said other candidates should not break the COC filing rule.  Jimenez said they cannot instruct the President to leave behind his Cabinet members and security. “Mayroon tayong patakaran at kung nagkamali kahapon, hindi na kailangang maulit,” he added.

Under Comelec guideline, each candidate may only bring four supporters when submitting election documents. – Jiann Padillo/ NewsLine
