Bong Go: Follow the law

December 8, 2018 by NewsLine Philippines

Former Special Assistant to the President and senatorial aspirant Christopher ‘Bong’ Go reiterated to his supporters and to the general public to follow the law, particularly local ordinances.
Go appealed to his supporters and to the supporters of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to abide by the rules after an incident happened in Silay City where a tarpaulin with his face was posted in a public place allegedly without permission from the local government.
Silay City Mayor Mark Golez ordered the taking down of the tarpaulin of Go pursuant to the city ordinance, which regulates advertisements by means of signboards, billboards, posters, paintings on walls, slides in movies, handbills, leaflets, streamers, electric or neon lights, display stand, and others of the same nature, and prescribing a permit fee and other regulating fees.
“In the said ordinance, any person who wishes to display any outdoor sign must first file an application with the Office of the City Engineer and must include the location, site plans, actual structural design, written consent of the owner of the premises and such other pertinent data as may be required by the Office of the City Engineer. Moreover, prior to posting, permit fees must be paid,” the mayor said.
The tarpaulin read, “Maligayang Pasko from SAP Bong Go.”
“Hindi ko po alam sino talaga ang nagkabit. Sa mga supporters ko at ni PRRD, I am truly grateful for your initiative and support,” Go said.
“Ang pakiusap ko lang, sundin natin ang mga ordinansya ng ating local leaders. Kami ni PRRD, mula noon hanggang ngayon, sinisigurado namin na kami at mga kasamahan namin ay palaging sumusunod sa batas,” he added.
Go stated that there should be no exceptions in implementing the law. He further reiterated that President Duterte and he always make sure that they abide by the law. He also reminded their colleagues and supporters to do the same.
“As a word of advice to our supporters, ilagay na lang nila sa mga bahay o private properties bilang parte ito ng karapatan nilang ipahayag ang sarili nila.
Mas mabuti pa, huwag ninyo ako unahin – ipangtulong nalang ninyo sa kapwa o ipambili nalang ng plywood para sa mga nasunugan yung gagastusin ninyo para diyan,” added Go.
“I would also like to thank Mayor Mark Golez of Silay City for being fair in implementing the law and for being supportive to me and the president.
Nabalitaan ko na siya rin mismo ang nagpakabit ng tarp sa private property niya to express his support.
The Silay mayor explained it was “never the intention of the city government to offend anyone, most especially SAP Bong Go, but [we’re doing this] merely to apply the rule of law fairly and squarely to all.”
