7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Davao Region; no casualties reported

DAVAO CITY (December 29)– A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Davao region at 12:15 today with the epicenter at Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

Other coastal municipalities of the province such Boston, Bangaga, Cateel, Manay, Taragona have been alerted.

Ednar Dayanghirang, chief of staff of the provincial governor’s office and incident commander of Davao Oriental told NewsLine. ph that the earthquake hit the Municipality of Governor Generoso but they did not receive any report of damages.  “But there will be no wetland activity and everyone should be on alert because Phivolcs issued an advisory of a possible tsumani.  Our disaster risks reduction team is ready and we are on standby.”

Governor Generoso Municipal Mayor Katrina  Orencia said that they are now moving in the coastal barangays and are informing everyone to “stay away – from the shore although there is no evacuation advisory yet.  –ecz/ NewsLine
