DAVAO CITY (JANUARY 31) — The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising jobseekers abroad not to trust job recruitments through the social media.

The DFA reminded jobseekers after a Filipina nurse was recruited via social media but ended up maltreated in Dubai.

The nurse was enticed by the Facebook post of the recruitment agency and eventually sent her abroad

Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes said the Filipina accepted a job offer via social media and entered the United Arab Emirates in December using a tourist visa.

Cortes said upon arrival in Dubai, she was brought to her agency’s accommodation where she was locked up and not given food.  She decided to escape a few days ago by jumping from the third floor of the building.

The injured worker is being assisted by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, which is making arrangements for her repatriation.

The DFA said job applicants should  first check the veracity of any job offer with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Philippine Overseas Labor Offices abroad.

The DFA assured that the Consulate General continues to work with authorities in UAE to prevent similar occurrences.-Winkle Tabuclao/NewsLine.ph
