5.5 magnitude earthquake hits Surigao del Sur

SURIGAO CITY (March 6) — A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Surigao Del Sur early this morning.

Residents of Barobo town in Surigao del Sur felt the movement of the ground at around 8:12 in the morning.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake of tectonic origin had a depth of 14 kilometers and hit 102 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur, at 8:12 a.m.

It was felt at Intensity IV in Bislig City and Intensity II in Davao City.

At 9:00 this morning, Philvocs reported that magnitude 3.2 earthquake jolted the town of Cagwait, also in Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected.-NewsLine.ph
