Explosions rock DCPO bomb storage room, no casualty reported

DAVAO CITY (April 20) —- The storage room for previously recovered explosives and bombs exploded, at about 11:30 this morning inside the Davao City Police Office Compound along San Pedro St. this city.

No casualty was reported.

The explosion happened inside the stockroom of the explosive and ordnance disposal (EOD) unit in the compound.

City Police Director Alexander Tagum said he cannot give details as yet “I cannot speculate ano ang niboto, conducting post blast investigation ang EOD.”

Tagum revealed the explosives recovered from the suspected members of ISIS-Maute terrorist were among those stored inside the gutted room.

The stockroom, according to Tagum was constructed with a thick concrete wall.

Tagum said they are looking for means to transfer the explosives and avoid the occurrence of the same incident in the future.

Personnel within the immediate area were evacuated only EOD and PRO Xi investigators are inside the compound.

He also belied reports that those which explode were the vintage bombs “they were stored separately, and these are intact.”

NewsLine. ph sources said they saw thick smoke coming from the stockroom and minutes later they heard loud explosion.

Investigators from the Explosive Ordnance Division of Camp Domingo Leonor and the Police Regional Office XI, are still conducting investigation the cause of the explosion.

Fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Central 911 contained the fire and the black smoke caused by said explosion.

A source theorized, an explosive could have leaked due to the extreme heat and the phosphorous content triggered the fire.-Reeya Nuñez/NewsLine.ph
