DAVAO CITY (June 30) — The newly elected political leaders in the country will start to discharge their official functions at exactly 12:01 this afternoon.

As mandated by law, all elected officials are presumed to have taken their respective oath of office by then and have already received the documents turned over by the outgoing officials.

Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Ignacio Jubahib attented a concelebrated before he took his oath today.

Jubahib is a first timer in politics, it was the people’s call for change in the province which inspired him to run.

He defeated Rodney del Rosario, the brother of outgoing Governor Anthony Del Rosario, children of Rodolfo del Rosario, who was once known as the political kingpin of the province.

In North Cotabato, Congresswoman Nancy Alaan Catamco took oath as the new Governor, she defeated former Governor Rogelio Taliño, the father of outgoing government now Vice Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza .

The turn-over ceremony will take place this afternoon.

The newly-elected local officials will be called by the Local Government Academy, the training arm of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), to an orientation in Manila on July 8, he said.

The elected local officials will be monitored by the DILG in their first 100 days in office.

The DILG pays attention to the first 100 days of newly elected officials because constituents are most probably “excited” to witness what the public servant will do during the first months of his or her stint.-ezc/NewsLine.ph
