SG President Halimah, Mayor Sara see stronger ties after Davao visit

DAVAO CITY — Singaporean Presidential Halimah Yacob and Presidential daughter Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio look for stronger partnership and collaboration between Davao City and Singapore.

Jacob who just left the city for the two-day visit noticed the vibrant colour and culture of Davao people and Mindanao.

Davao City was among the destinations of Halimah during her state visit, as Philippines and Singapore celebrate the 50 years diplomatic ties.

Duterte-Carpio, during the welcome dinner on Tuesday night at the Marco Polo Hotel stressed “This visit stamps another milestone in our shared history, let us look forward to fruitful exchanges for the betterment and benefits of both of our nations.”

Duterte also congratulated Yacob and its constituents for its bi-centennial year celebration of their country.

In response Halimah said   “We enjoy so many ties with the Philippines.” She expressed her appreciation to the warm reception of Davaoeños and FIlipinos during her visit. 

“There are strong synergies for economic cooperation and business partnerships with any industry sectors,”  she said.  . 

The Singaporean leader emphasized that the ties between her country and Philippines is potential for a deeper cooperation not just in the national level but also with the key cities such as Manila, Cebu City  and Davao City. 

On Wednesday, halimah visited the Philippine Eagle Center in Barangay Malagos to see its Biodiversity Program since Singapore and the Philippines signed an agreement for Breeding Loan for the two Philippine Eagles. 

The Singaporean leader had a dialogue in Ateneo de Davao University with the youth sector in Mindanao for an inter-faith dialogue organized by Al Qalam Institute. 

Around 1:00p.m., Yacob left the city along with her delegation.-Armando Fenequito
