MSU student wounded in shooting incident

ILIGAN CITY — A student from the Mindanao State University (MSU) Marawi campus was wounded in a shooting incident around 7:00 in the evening Thursday night, October 17.

Lanao del Sur Police Director Police Director Colonel Madzghani Mukaram identified the victim as Ivan Polinar Almeda, 20, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur.

Initial police investigation revealed, the victim was walking along the commercial center inside the MSU Campus Barangay DImalma, with three female friends when the still unidentified gunman suddenly surfaced and shot the victim.

This developed as MSU President Habib Macaayong in a statement appealed for sobriety and calm.

In a statement, Macaayong stressed “The dastardly shooting of an innocent freshmen student is an unfortunate but isolated case. We condemn the brutal act in the harshest terms. As University President and father, I ask everyone Muslims and Christians alike, to pray for the victim.”

He assured that all security measures are in placed, “An investigation is now being conducted with the cooperations of the PNP and the Army. All means will be exhausted to find the perpetrator and make him suffer full force of the law. Everything is under control.”

The victim sustained who gunshot wound on his head was rushed to Amai Pakpak Medical Center and is now recuperating.-Divina M. Suson
