Dozens wounded as 6.4 magnitude quake hits major parts of Southern Mindanao; Classes and work suspended

DAVAO CITY —  Dozens were reported injured mostly students when a 6.4 magnitude earthquake of tectonic origin hits Tulunan, North Cotabato at about 9:04 in the morning, October 29. In Davao City, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio immediately ordered the suspension of classes from kindergarten to post-graduate studies on Tuesday. 

But the U.S. Geological Survey also measured the quake at Magnitude 6.6.

The City government of Kidapawan and the municipalities of Makilala and Tulunan have ordered work and class suspension following the series of jolts.

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake, which happened this morning , may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and houses.

Duterte also instructed all school owners, teachers, and other school personnel to subject school structures to a safety inspection with a qualified engineer immediately.

She said that if they find building defects that are dangerous and need repair, they should immediately condemn the area and not allow students to use the same. She added that the suspension of classes tomorrow.
