ILIGAN CITY —– A strong tornado destroyed the roof section of Marawi City Hall and some properties near Barangay Fort on Monday, November 4.

Mayor Majul Gandamra was presiding the Monday meeting with department heads when they heard rumblings outside, recalled Jorome Maglahos, the executive assistant of the Mayor.

City Hall staff ran to check what was happening, but just before they reached the windows, the strong wind blew the building which severely damaged the roof of the City Hall and iron sheets flew hitting several vehicles parked at the garage.

“It was drizzling, when suddenly we heard the roaring strong winds but there was no rain, just drizzles but it did not last long,” Maglahos said.

The meeting was interrupted but resumed after 15 minutes.

Gandamra immediately directed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to assess the damages.-Divina M. Suson
