70 dead marine turtles recovered in Northern Palawan

July 7, 2017 by Philippine News Agency 5 Comments

PUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines — Police authorities recovered around 70 pieces of dead marine turtles (pawikan) in the northern Palawan town of Dumaran early morning Thursday, July 6.

Municipal Police Station (MPS) Chief Inspector Arnel Bagona told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) the dead marine turtles were found around 2:30 a.m. off the shores of Barangay Bacao in the said municipality.

They were discovered aboard a large motorboat that reeked of formalin.

Bagona said two boatmen were arrested following the incident, identified as Rico Gonzales and Kim Aristotiles, both residents of Taytay.

He said they suspect that the dead marine turtles would be brought to Balabac.

Charges of violation of the wildlife trafficking law will be filed against the two suspects. (Jesus M. Ustares/PNA)
