BALIANGAO, Misamis Occidental—To instill fear among residents not to get out of their houses due to the threat of Coronavirus-19 pandemic, a village chief placed an empty coffin along the road in Barangay Northern Poblacion here.

“Stay At Home” are the words inscribed on both sides of the coffin as a stern warning that Coronavirus infection can cause death. The coffin is located near the designated smoking area of the town.

Barangay Captain Joel Lapur said the purpose of putting the coffin is to instill fear and consciousness among residents that the virus is deadly and they must stay at home to avoid getting infected.

Police Captain Pidta Comonog, chief of Baliangao PNP said the municipal government is sending a strong signal that their campaign against Covid-19 is serious and that everyone must cooperate.

Comonong said, residents of Barangay Northern are mostly staying in their house, while only those working are going out and curfew is strictly observed.

As it is now, the town has been placed under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) and the coffin stays as a constant reminder for everyone.-Neptalie Batolenio
