Xi tells Duterte : Philippines a priority recipient of coronavirus vaccine

DAVAO CITY —President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China has assured President Rodrigo Duterte over a phone conversation on Thursday night that the Philippines will be a priority recipient of Coronavirus vaccine.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement said, the telephone conversation between Duterte and Xi lasted for 38 minutes.

Roque said, during the conversation, President Xi assured PRRD his country’s commitment to making the vaccine available for all, adding that the Philippines, as a friendly neighbor, would certainly be a priority.

Roque said the two leaders discussed both countries’ progress in combating COVID-19 and their strategies to restart their respective economies. Both tendered their commitment to work together in fighting COVID-19 as part of international efforts to contain the spread of the virus. 

The President mentioned to his Chinese counterpart the need for cooperation in research trials for COVID-19 vaccine development and underscored the importance of making the vaccine accessible and affordable to all countries.  

Both leaders also took the occasion to review Philippines-China relations emphasizing the friendship of the two countries and the significant increase in mutual cooperation in a wide range of areas.-Newsline
