DAVAO CITY — In a new normal world when people are not allowed to converge, and celebration deferred due to the continuing threat of coronavirus pandemic, a small town of San Isidro town in Davao del Norte celebrated the festivity by distributing food to the people while local officials and people’s organization into tree planting.
The town celebrated its 16th founding anniversary on June 27. Town Mayor Arnel Sitoy and the municipal officials did not stop the celebration, instead, they made the commemoration more meaningful by gathering together in a limited mass attendance which was followed by providing food packs and planting trees to re-green their town.
People in said town are into cacao planting and other high-value crops, preserving the climate for these crops need sustained environs, a thing which the LGUs have to keep, said Allan Delildeli, the municipal administrator in an interview with Newsline on Tuesday, June 30.
“Mayor Sitoy called on the people to be more productive and cultivate their lands as the agriculture sector needs to be strengthened this time. We need to produce more not just for the town folks but for people in other areas where food is wanting,” Delideli stressed.
By providing food in every table, he said, people celebrate the bounty and blessings despite the pandemic.
The town provided not just tree seedlings but it included vegetable seeds and other crops which can provide food in the next 90days, he added.
Aside from food and seedlings, the town also highlighted the festivity by awarding the most beautiful vegetable garden which families have done during the past months when the government implemented the Enhanced to modified quarantine rules, the contest was dubbed as “Selfiehan sa Gulayan”.
The entries of the contest contain a photo of a garden with the families or the cultivator, the entries were submitted online and it was judged based on the production, preparation and method of planting the varieties.
The town also held an online contest which they call a ‘Pass the Brush’ make-up transformation challenge.
The food distribution was held in Barangay Sawata while the tree-planting and clean-up drives were held in barangay Pagsabangan,
The celebration was joined by farmers and members of various People’s Organizations also received various vegetable seeds during the hand over ceremony.-ezc/Newsline
