DAVAO CITY  — An 84-year old woman recorded the first death due to coronavirus-19 pandemic in Kidapawan City in North Cotabato.

On Saturday, July 4, the Department of Health (DOH)-Region 12 (Socsksargen) on Saturday reported the first death from North Cotabato.

The patient was from Barangay Sudapin, Kidapawan City, North Cotabato province.

She was confined at SPMC and died on June 30, she tested positive on June 24 at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City where she was earlier brought to seek further medication for her recurring respiratory illness.

The city government of Kidapawan in a statement said, ” The City Government mourns the loss of our fellow Kidapaweño, 84-year old patient who previously tested positive for Covid-19″.

The city assured the residents “While it is ideal for things to be under our full control at all times, there are matters that are beyond human comprehension and would be properly left to the hands of destiny. We join his family in this time of grief. Let us all pray for his peaceful repose. May the Good Lord have mercy on his soul and let His perpetual light shine upon him”.

The DOH-Soccsksargen in a statement indicated that the patient died due to “cardiac arrhythmia secondary to hyperkalemia, acute coronary syndrome non-ST elevation myocardial infarction; acute respiratory type 1 secondary to community-acquired pneumonia-high risk (Hypoxia); and anemia etiology to be determined, Covid-19 confirmed critical”.

Recently, all persons, including his family and health personnel from a private hospital here with direct contact to the patient underwent PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and all came out “negative” from the virus, the city government added..

The negative result among those in close contact with the patient removed anxiety among Kidapaweños and was the basis of the provincial Inter-agency Task Force to declare that there is no local transmission in the city.-Newsline
