DAVAO CITY —Straight before President Rodrigo Duterte, a telco executive revealed that government bureaucracy hampers them to provide better service to its client because their applications are sitting on the table.
Ernest Cu, the president and CEO of Globe telecommunications during the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) meeting opened up about their struggle to secure permits.
But even before Cu could speak, Duterte said the Telcos cannot provide towers to improve their service because “The local governments are all f****** it up, that’s why”.
In his talk, Cu revealed “We are suffering from many, many years of this, before your administration, many administrations ‘no. Twenty-five to 29 permits, umaabot ng walong buwan tapos marami pa ho kaming mga miscellaneous fees, iba-ibang klaseng tower fee, mayroon kaming special use permit”.
For GLobe alone, he said, they cannot standardize their service, they cannot even realize the plan to put up 1,500 towers which should have been their standard and even PLDT, they are putting up so much amount even quadruple but still, bureaucracies and red-tape caught them up.
He further said “Kasi nga hindi namin alam anong tutuloy eh sa dami ng permit na required para makarating kami sa stage na ready to build. So isipin niyo lang ho ‘yon, sir. Kung nag-apply kami ng 5,000 towers times 28 or 30 permits na lang, ilang libo hong permit ang kukunin namin para lang makapag-umpisa”.
To this, Duterte urged the telcos to report to him all the anomalies as he promised drastic measures against the culprits.
“The most drastic measure that you can find para magkaintindihan na tayo. This is my last mile. I make no apologies about it kung ano ang nagawa ko o anong mali ko. Basta ako magtrabaho lang,” he added.-Newsline.ph
