2 minors swept by flash flood in NoCot rescued

DAVAO CITY  — Heavy rains and ctrong current of flood waters swept children in Barangay Kisante in Makilala, North Cotabato.

Kisante is a village located at the foothills of Mt. Apo stretched along the Davao-Cotabato highway.

“The children were enjoying the 4 p.m. heavy downpour near the river when rampaging waters swept them away,” said Arnulfo Villaruz, warning chief of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office.

Passers-by along the national highway noticed the two children taken away by floodwaters at the huge roadside drainage, prompting them to save the minors.

They were identified as Necel Cortez, 3; and Althea Yanis Bioc, 7; both of Barangay Kisante, Makilala.

The two sustained bruises and was brought to a hospital in Poblacion, Makilala.

Traffic flow was stopped for more than an hour until the water level at New Bulatukan River started receding around past 5 p.m.

The damage of the flash floods is still being assessed by the Cotabato Engineering office.-With PNA report
