Barangay Captain, Kagawad, 28 others arrested for illegal cockfight involving P245K

DAVAO CITY — Police authorities here arrested a barangay captain, a barangay kagawad and 28 others for holding an illegal cockfight involving a P245,000 bet on Sunday at around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Davao City Police Office Spokesperson Capt. Rose Aguilar said a concerned citizen informed the police that a cockfight was ongoing in Duha village, San Rafael Village, Barangay 10-A.

The police immediately formed a composite team to verify the report and effect arrest if warranted.

Upon their arrival in the area, they saw Barangay Captain Marc Cayetano standing and watching the fight, held in his farm, he stood as the cockfight manager.

Aside from Cayetano, the police immediately arrested the following:

  1. Brgy Kagawad Romeo Mamontayo, 57, male; 
  2. Waren Comision , 39 years old, member of SCAA; 
  3. Mark Gero Mangayup, 23;
  4. Abelardo Dela Tore, 62;
  5. Restito  Abellano, 66;
  6. Javari Gervantes, 66;
  7. Dodong Balmory, 42;
  8. Juan Celis, 21;
  9. Justin Angelo Arreglo, 29;
  10. Christopher Dugos, 24;
  11. Dodong Almario, 48,;
  12. Ken Malcampo, 32,
  13. Ronel Formentera, 24;
  14. Ali Borja, 55;
  15. Peter Canodas, 33;
  16. Reymond Rex Castillo, 34
  17. Akbar Catucag, 31;
  18. Kalid Langga, 32;
  19. Ben Gambong 62; Davao City, 
  20. Ricky Claveria, 44;
  21. Julios Sapico, 33;
  22. Francis Pingot, 34;
  23. Bayong Superales, 30;
  24. Lorie Daway, 53;
  25. Mark Gelicana Duterte;
  26. Veterano Burgos Tan (Gaffer of Cayetano’s rooster,61;
  27. Serapin Majadas, 56 ; and, 
  28. Miguel Mascariñas, 35

A certain Aton, reportedly escaped.

Aguilar said, Cayetano availed his Miranda rights and has yet to issue a statement as of this publication.

Police recovered the following from the scene: Two (2) fighting cocks with gaff; Two Hundred Forty-Five Thousand and Seven Hundred Thirty-Four (Php 245,734.00) pesos in different denominations (Bet Money); and thirty-Three (33) pieces Gaffs (Rooster Blade). 

Arrested persons were immediately brought to SOG office for documentation and  Violation of PD 449 as amended by PD 1602 and RA 11332 in relation to Section 4, of Executive Order 47-A of City Government of Davao is being prepared against the apprehended personalities.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
