40 plane passengers tested positive upon arrival at Davao Airport

DAVAO CITY —- A sweeper flight which landed in Davao City International Airport carried passengers with 40 coronavirus disease-19 positive.

In a radio interview with the City Government-owned DCDR radio, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday, September 25, revealed “Adtong September 21, kabalo mo dunay isa ka plane nga dala niya 40 nga positive, diri na nahibaw-an nag testing man sila pag-abot (Last September 21, did you know that a plane with 40 positives arrived, and it was learned here when they were tested upon arrival).

In the September 21 report of the Department of Health region XI, it stated ” COVID-19 in Davao Region as of September 21, 2020, | 5:00 PMAs of 5:00 pm today, DOH Davao Center for Health Development reports no new cases of COVID-19 in the region”.

But in its September 22 report, the health department reported “As of September 22, 2020, | 5:00 PMAs of 5:00 pm today, DOH Davao Center for Health Development reports 63 new cases of COVID-19 in the region bringing the total number of active cases to 434”.

The same DOH report stated, “40 are from Davao City, nine (9) are from Davao del Norte, six (6) are from Davao de Oro, five (5) are from Davao Oriental, and three (3) are from Davao del Sur”.

The September 22 report added, “Of these new cases, two are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI), one is a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), 28 are for further verification, while 32 are local cases”.

On the same date, the DOH said, “A total of 1,037 persons were tested, of which 87 tested positive, 24 of the 87 persons who tested positive today were from other regions, thus, these cases will be added to their respective region”.

Duterte-Carpio during the interview said lately, many arriving passengers were tested positive, but the city government has long prepared for the situation and the intervention has been in place because the city has anticipated the rise in cases among returning residents.

As of September 25, 5:00 in the afternoon, the DOH Davao Center for Health Development reported 43 new cases of COVID-19 in the region bringing the total number of active cases to 492.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
