DepEd XI sets up mechanism to monitor attendance of learners

October 29, 2020 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY — The Department of Education regional office (DepEd-XI) is setting up a mechanism for community-based monitoring and learning help desk requiring class advisers to have a regular schedule of a compliance check of learners that will strategically and randomly monitor the attendance of learners.

The establishment of the mechanism was the result of the Oplan Balik Eskwela monitoring after the regional monitors have found out from the teachers that some learners were not in their homes to read and study the modules.

This after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio called on DepEd to make sure that their learners are inside their homes during class hours as many quarantine violators are students.

DepEd XI Regional Director Evelyn R. Fetalvero issued the memorandum to ensure that learners are at home doing their expected tasks while facilitated by their parents or guardians.

The Executive Order released by the City Government of Davao signed by City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte was released on October 26 mentioning the Department of Education (DepEd) stipulated in Section 15. It says DepEd schools class advisers must have a regular schedule of compliance checks of students and their performance tasks according to their modules.

Included in the memorandum issued was the establishment of community-based monitoring and learning help desk system to address the needs of learners, teachers, parents, and stakeholders. It is responsible for receiving and processing information, issues, concerns, or complaints coming from all sectors relative to the implementation of the curriculum and other educational concerns under the new normal.

With this, the Department will be able to respond to the queries, clarification, and concerns of the learners, parents, teachers, and personnel, local government units and stakeholders on matters regarding distance learning delivery modality, learners’ learning and performance, assessment and grading system, teachers’ training, parents’ orientation, and training, and health and safety protocols among others.

Dr. Fetalvero said this will provide guidance to the field in communicating advocacies, disseminating information, resolving issues and concerns, and this will serve as an alternative platform for collaboration and support of all governance levels.

All the 11 schools division offices (SDOs) and schools are given freeway on the establishment of the community-based monitoring and learning help desk system.

ARD Maria Ines C. Asuncion said all SDOs and schools are required to create an online link for the weekly reporting of their activities. This system will help the top management monitor issues and concerns and what actions were taken including the effectiveness of such actions.-Newsline.ph
