COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will commemorate the Bangsamoro Foundation Day on Thursday, January 21.

The Office of the Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim issued a memorandum circular on Dec. 7 signed by Executive Secretary-designate Abdulraof Macacua announcing the proclamation of Jan. 21 as the Bangsamoro Foundation Day and its declaration as a non-working holiday throughout the region.  This is in celebration of the establishment of the Bangsamoro Region.

The memorandum circular directed all ministries, offices, agencies, and constituent local government units to participate in the activities and to conduct their own activities befitting the occasion.

At the start of the week-long celebration on January 18, there will be a simultaneous flag raising and singing of the Bangsamoro hymn in all government offices and schools in the Bangsamoro region.

The celebration is “in recognition of the dreams and aspiration of the people to chart their social, political, and economic destiny in the exercise of their right to self-determination”.

The first of the two-part plebiscite for the ratification of the Republic Act No. 11054 otherwise known as the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) was conducted on Jan. 21, 2019, while the second part was on Feb. 6 of the same year.

The BARMM is composed of the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan and Marawi; the provinces of Basilan (except Isabela City), Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, and the Special Geographic Area (SGA) comprising 63 barangays in North Cotabato. – Newsline.ph
