LPA leaves 10,000 residents homeless in Sulu

COTABATO CITY –— The low pressure area (LPA) that hit the province of Sulu on Sunday and early Monday rendered at least 10,000 residents homeless.

Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan said on Monday that coastal barangays in the towns of Jolo, Parang, Patikul, Omar and Talipao suffered strong waves and wind and that about 2,000 families or an estimated 10,000 individuals were displaced.

Tan said the LPA destroyed houses in the coastal barangays of  Busbus, Chinese Pier, Takut-Takut, Tulay in Jolo, Sulu.

He said Bandang Bridge in Talipao town was partially damaged and became impassable to all types of vehicles.

The governor reported that houses in the coastal barangays of Nunukan, Lawm Suwah and Buton in Parang town and those in Patikul Higad and Taglibi in Patikul town as well as those in Angilan and Capual in Omar town were all damaged.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PDSWD) already started distribution of relief goods to the displaced families and individuals who are now staying in public schools while some are staying with their relatives. – Newsline.ph
