DAVAO CITY – The Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC) in Mati town in Davao Oriental province temporarily stopped its operation January 25, due to the recent increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases within the hospital compound.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reden V. Versaldo, in a public advisory, said the closure of DOPMC which will last for a period of 10 to 14 days is intended to curb the transmission of the virus.

“During this time, DOPMC will be undergoing massive disinfection, isolation, and risk testing of all remaining employees and contacts,”  Versaldo said.

Versaldo said while no new admissions or emergency cases will be catered during the closure, “all remaining admitted patients will be facilitated and discharged accordingly”.

He asked those who may have health care needs to go to the nearest District Hospitals, Rural and City Health Units, and other private clinics and hospitals.

“Let us continue to pray for all our front liners and for the speedy recovery of all our infected patients and healthcare workers,” Versaldo said.

The Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force noted the surge in Coronavirus disease in Region XI after the holiday season.

The health authorities has repeatedly asked the public to strictly follow the minimum health protocol to avoid transmission while the local government authorities are asking residents to stay in their houses  to keep them safe. Newsline.ph
