ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three fishermen were rescued by the Joint Task Force Sulu’s 4th Marine Brigade (MBde) in the waters between the provinces of Sulu and Basilan, military officials said Tuesday.

Col. Hernanie Songano, 4MBde commander, said the fishermen were rescued around 7 a.m. Monday between Duway Bulod, Banguingui (formerly Tongkil), Sulu and Laud Tamok, Basilan.

Songano identified them as the following: Ardimar Arripudin; Diman Aljemer Malic; and Alsid Janier.

“We were informed by Tulayan (Municipality of Luuk) Barangay Chairman Karfaiza Omar that a motorized outrigger boat named ‘M/B Dayang Arnaisa’ capsized around 2 a.m. We immediately launched a search and rescue, we found them at 7 in the morning,” Songano said.

Songano said the rescued fishermen were taken to Luuk District Hospital for check-up. He said the three fishermen were transporting frozen fish to this city when their boat capsized due to damage of its hull.

Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Joint Task Force Sulu commander, recognized the active and immediate action of Naval Task Group-Sulu and 4Mbde to save the three fishermen from the hull damaged motorboat.

“With the quick response of the troops, we saved lives,” Gonzales said.

He assured the people of Sulu that his command will continue to extend help to those in need of humanitarian assistance and disaster response. – Nikolai Gonzalo
