ZAMBOANGA CITY – Twenty-three mass-based supporters of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to the government authorities in Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official announced.

Police Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director said the NPA supporters have surrendered around 10 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Tiguha, Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ylagan said the surrenderees composed of one chairperson, 11 members of Kababayen-an (women) and 11 mag-uuma (farmers).

Ylagan said they belong to Barangay Revolutionary Committee, organized by the Guerrilla Front KARA of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).

He said that the Barangay Revolutionary Committee (BRC) is known as the “Sangay sa Partido sa Lokalidad”, a party branch of the WMRPC, established and organized by a territorial guerrilla front.

He said that the BRC is an underground movement of the NPA to support them in terms of financial, logistical, medical, guide, look-out, recruitment and organization in the barangay level.

He said the surrenderees signed an Oath of Allegiance solemnized by Police Lieutenant Victor Tabunda and was witnessed by Mayor Joel Sulong of Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur. – Nikolai Gonzalo/Newsline.ph
