ZAMBOANGA CITY – The 102nd Infantry Brigade has activated a unit to completely defeat the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander said, that unit known as the Task Unit Jaguar will serve as the brigade’s ready deployable force that will hunt down the remaining NPA rebels under the WMRPC in the areas of Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental.

Nicolas said that the unit, which was activated Sunday, is composed of 115 officers and personnel from 42nd, 44th, and 53rd Infantry Battalions.

The unit was activated with Nicolas leading the simple ceremony on Sunday at the headquarters of the 102nd Infantry Brigade in Barangay Sanito, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

“For a very long time, our goal, our mission, and our objectives remained the same, and that is to defeat the WMRPC,” Nicolas said.

He is confident that they will be able to completely dismantle the NPA’s WMRPC with reinvigorated passion and commitment of the troops assigned with Task Unit Jaguar.

He said they are already close to defeating the NPA’s WMRPC with the dismantling of five guerrilla units and two vertical forces and one regional urban committee during their previous campaigns, with the strong support from their stakeholders through the different levels of Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC).

He said the troops will undergo a short-course reorganization training to enhance their tactical and technical proficiency in accomplishing such mission. – Nikolai Gonzalo
