DAVAO CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Executive Directors Bagani Fidel A. Evasco (Region 11) and Nonito M. Tamayo (Region 13) recently conferred in aims of intensifying the enforcement of environmental laws and winding up timber poaching and illegal logging activities in the border areas of both regions. 

The said inter-regional meeting which was held last March 23, 2021, aimed to seek cooperation between regions to formulate inter-regional policy and guidelines that will prevent and mitigate illegal logging activities, and to create an inter-regional Task Force for the implementation and re-activation of Executive Order No. 23 or the “Declaring a Moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual forests and creating the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force”.

“It is a very challenging task, because Davao Region has multiple entry and exit points, we have three nearby regions; Region 13, 10, and 12, and this is just one of our concerns in terms of inter-region alliances. I hope that our endeavor will prosper, and, most importantly, no one gets involved with any illegal activities. What we do now entails the future generation.” Evasco expressed. 

Tamayo, on the other hand, concurred and laid out their enforcement and other strategic plans as well. 

After the meeting, the executives conducted a site inspection of monitoring stations in Bislig, Surigao del Sur and Baganga, Davao Oriental.
