DAVAO CITY — At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 inside their compound in Purok 2, Barangay San Antonio, unidentified armed men riding in tandem killed an undefeated town councilor of Talakag, Bukidnon Province.

Councilor Susan Gayoman, 64, was preparing for the feast of San Antonio de Padua when the gunmen rushed in and one of the suspects fired his gun, according to Talakag Police Chief Mayor Dennis Rowell Flores.

During the incident, her nephew Luther Joey Bustillo, 39, a traffic enforcer, attempted to confront the assailant but was wounded. While Gayoman’s niece Donna Mae Timtim, 29, was wounded while fending her sari-sari shop nearby after being struck by a stray gunshot.

Gayoman was brought to Talakag Municipal Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival by Dr. Lowela Intud.

Flores in an interview with Newsline.ph revealed, “We are investigating whether the crime is work related being an undefeated politician but we are also looking into the possible grudge among her relatives, and she is a collateral damage”.

Gayoman has served as Village Chief of Barangay San Isidro, president of the Liga ng Mga Barangay and was serving her second term as municipal councilor when the incident happened.

Her track record in public service rendered her undefeated for the last 20 years in politics.-
