South Korean wanted for voice phishing falls

DAVAO CITY –— The Bureau of Immigration has arrested a South Korean wanted for voice phishing falls on Wednesday, September 2, 2021.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the Korean as Park Voram, 39, who is reportedly a member of a large-scale voice phishing organization who deceived thousands of victims by pretending to be a loan officer in a financial institution

Park was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest at a hotel building in Mandaluyong City. The operation, which was coordinated with both local and Korean authorities.

Park is an undocumented alien and is wanted in Korea for fraud in violation of Article 347-(1) of the Criminal Act of Korea, According to BI FSU Chief Rendel Sy.

The operation was conducted after the BI received information from South Korea about Park’s standing arrest warrant issued by the Gwangju District Court.

Damages attributed to him amount to over 4B KRW or more than Php171M.

“The arrest of these fugitives show that despite the pandemic, we are serious in our drive to locate, arrest, and deport these illegal aliens,” said Morente.

“We will not allow these undesirable aliens to hide here to avoid facing responsibility for their crimes,” he added.

Park will be temporarily detained at the BI’s Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending his deportation.-ezc
