Davao Rivers start to swell after heavy downpour

DAVAO CITY — Sirens near Davao River are now warning all residents near the rivers, riverbanks, and all waterways which are flood-prone to prepare themselves as the water starts to swell,

At 8:42 tonight, October 22, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office issued the river monitoring status:

  • Aklihan Creek (Tributary of Talomo river) along Purok 23, Brgy. Sto. Niño is monitored to be at Code Red (Critical level);
  • Talomo River along Taal bailey bridge, Brgy. Talomo Proper is monitored to be at Code Red (Critical level).
  • Tagluno River (tributary of Lipadas river) along Brgy. Tagluno is monitored to be at Code Red (Critical level)
  • .Lipadas River along Brgy. Lubogan is monitored to be at Code Yellow (Alert level).
  • Matina River along Brgy. Matina Pangi is monitored to be at Code Yellow (Alert level).
  • Sumimao River (Tributary of Davao river) is monitored to be Code Red (Critical level).The rest of the river channels are monitored within the Safe Level.

Meanwhile, in the municipality of Glan in Sarangani Province, some 200 families have been rescued as floodwaters hit Barangay Udan early in the afternoon after the heavy rainfall.

Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) have distributed foodstuff to affected residents while others were brought to evacuation centers.
