Soldier runs amok, kills 2 officers, injured 1

DAVAO CITY — Two military officials were killed while another one was wounded after a soldier ran amok and pummeled them with bullets inside the headquarters of 10th Civil Military Operations (CMO) in Barangay San Agustin, Tagum City Tuesday night November 2, 2021.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of 10th Infantry Division identified the suspect as Sergeant Alvin Bureros, 46 years old from Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

Tito identified the fatalities as Major Franklin Embat and Technical Sergeant Sandatu Tuma, while he wounded soldier was identified as Major Mineheart Maliawao.

During the Wednesday virtual press conference of the AFP-PNP Southern Mindanao, Tito revealed, the involved personnel just came from the formation area of the camp but Bureros reportedly uttered ” “Tapuson na nato ni (let’s end this)” which the group presumed a joke, he then proceeded to the camp’s main gate when when he was about five meters away from the victims who were sated and as they talked.

Without any provocation, the suspect pummeled them with bullets from his service R4 rifle.

Embat and Tuma were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead upon arrival while Maliawao was brought to 10th ID hospital.

The suspect is now under the custody of Tagum Police Station, he voluntarily surrendered before the village chief at around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
